Darién, Panama

Panama’s Eastern Frontier

The Darién province of Eastern Panamá is at the literal "end of the road”. Here, an immense expanse of luxuriant rainforest interrupts the Pan-American Highway, the almost-continuous road that stretches from Alaska to Argentina. Although it may be one of the least visited areas in Central America due to its remoteness, it’s considered one of the most valuable areas in the New World Tropics for birding and wildlife.

During this exciting 9-day/8-night adventure, you’ll not only visit the realm of the majestic Harpy Eagle and the towering Cuipo trees where they build their nests, but there are so many other bird-rich habitats to explore in the region. The potential bird list is weighty as you work your way through mature primary and secondary forests, swampy meadows, tranquil lagoons, riversides, farmland, dry scrub, and along the Pan-American Highway. You are sure to have the tropical birding adventure of a lifetime!
